There’s a time machine that exists if only for 1/8th of a mile, tucked out of sight along old farm roads in the southern United States. Blink and you miss the towns as most have nothing more than a stop sign and a gas pump. Driving to photograph these tracks has been one of my favorite forms of meditation and with the radio up and the windows down, somehow the rest of the world melts away. I just observe, look in awe, and create what lights up my soul. The entire experience is an overstimulation of the senses, akin to the tastes and smells of world class dining, but with the brutality, grit and beauty only gasoline, rubber and steel can provide. Exploring this world led me to fall in love once again with both automobiles and the art of photography. Endless nights were spent exploring color profiles made to emulate the feeling of analogue hand prints with muted tones but the richest of hues. I wanted the work to feel absolutely timeless and transcend even photography into graphic artworks of shape, texture and color, with nostalgia oozing from every pixel. The only way this project was ever going to be unveiled would be tangibly in print. In a world of disposable content and fast-forgotten imagery, I set out to make emotionally driven visuals many layers deeper and hopefully a timeless take on the visceral experience of these lightning-fast dinosaurs.
